Dhaka Dynamites 136 for 4 (Tharanga 51, Narine 31) beat Chittagong Vikings 135 for 8 (Mosaddek 40, Narine 4-15) by six wickets
How the game played out
Dhaka Dynamites earned a second shot at a place in the BPL final after their six-wicket win over Chittagong Vikings in the eliminator. Sunil Narine took four wickets and struck a breezy 16-ball 31 to help set up a win with 20 balls to spare.
Narine added 44 in just 4.3 overs with opening partner Upul Tharanga, whose 51 included seven fours. Tharanga guided the chase until the 14th over after which Nurul Hasan and Kieron Pollard knocked off the remaining 24 runs with an unbroken fifth-wicket stand.
Earlier, Cameron Delport had earlier provided the Vikings with a decent start, after they opted to bat but once he and Mushfiqur Rahim fell within 10 overs, the Dynamites grabbed control.
Spin duo Shakib Al Hasan and Narine combined superbly, and only Mosaddek Hossain’s 40 off 35 balls provided a late boost for Vikings.
Vikings’ danger man Robbie Frylinck perishing in the 17th over soon after Shakib Al Hasan placed a slip, leg-slip and a silly mid-off for Narine.
Tharanga and Rony Talukdar following up with 44 runs for the second wicket after the Tharanga-Narine opening stand had given Dynamites a fast start.
Star of the day
Two of Narine’s four wickets came at crucial stages for the Dynamites. He removed Mushfiqur Rahim in the 10th over before Frylinck gave long-on a catch in the 17th over. He dismissed Hardus Viljoen in the 17th over too, for his fourth wicket, his first four-wicket haul in the BPL.
The big miss
Shadman Islam not sacrificing his wicket after his mid-pitch mix-up with a set Delport, whose 27-ball 36 seemed a proper platform for a bigger knock.
Where the teams stand
Dynamites will now take on the losing side from the first qualifier. Vikings, meanwhile, have been knocked out after their impressive BPL campaign fizzled out over the last 10 days, as they lost four out of their last five league matches coming into the Eliminator.
